Lead Summer Camp Teacher

Includ(Ed) – Inclusive Summer Camp

Locations: Pacific Beach & Point Loma, San Diego

Schedule: Approximately 30 hours per week

Compensation: $28–$32 per hour (depending on experience)

Position Overview

The Lead Summer Camp Teacher serves as the instructional and relational leader of a camp classroom serving children ages 2–10.

Lead Summer Camp Teachers are responsible for planning and implementing inclusive camp activities, supervising staff, maintaining a safe and engaging classroom environment, and ensuring every child feels known, supported, and valued.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom Leadership

  • Lead and oversee daily camp programming aligned with Includ(Ed)’s inclusive philosophy
  • Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate activities
  • Create a structured yet flexible environment that supports a range of learning styles and abilities
  • Maintain daily schedules, transitions, and classroom routines

Inclusion & Individualized Support

  • Differentiate instruction and activities to support children with diverse developmental needs
  • Collaborate with therapists and support staff to embed inclusive strategies into daily programming
  • Ensure children with disabilities are meaningfully included in all camp experiences
  • Support behavior proactively using relationship-based and developmentally appropriate practices

Staff Supervision

  • Supervise and mentor Camp Counselors and Assistant Teachers
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively and model best practices
  • Provide feedback and maintain clear, professional communication with team members

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure active supervision at all times
  • Maintain compliance with safety requirements
  • Oversee health, snack/lunch, and outdoor procedures
  • Ensure proper documentation and incident reporting as needed

Family Communication

  • Communicate professionally with families as needed
  • Support smooth arrival and dismissal procedures
  • Represent Includ(Ed)’s mission and values with warmth and professionalism

Qualifications

  • Must pass background check and fingerprinting (LiveScan)
  • Meet Community Care Licensing qualifications for a fully qualified teacher preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or related field preferred
  • Experience leading a classroom required
  • Experience working with children with disabilities strongly preferred
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work approximately 30 hours per week during camp sessions
