Assistant Early Childhood Teacher

Reports To: Founding Preschool Director and/or Lead Teacher

Pay Range: $21–$23/hour (based on experience and education)

Position Overview

The Assistant Teacher supports the daily care, supervision, and learning experiences of children across Includ(Ed)’s Infant, Toddler, and Preschool classrooms. This role may be assigned to a specific age group or serve as a float, providing flexible coverage across rooms as needed.

Assistant Teachers play a vital role in creating a safe, nurturing, inclusive environment where all children — including those with disabilities — can learn, grow, and thrive. This position requires warmth, flexibility, teamwork, and a strong commitment to inclusive early childhood education.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Child Care & Classroom Support

  • Assist with the direct care and supervision of children in infant, toddler, and/or preschool classrooms
  • Support children’s physical, social-emotional, communication, and developmental needs
  • Assist lead teachers with implementing daily activities and routines
  • Ensure all children are under direct supervision at all times

Daily Routines & Caregiving

  • Support activities of daily living including diapering, toileting, feeding, hygiene, and rest
  • Prepare and serve bottles, snacks, and meals as assigned
  • Follow individualized care plans, including feeding and sleep schedules for infants

Learning Environment & Safety

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment
  • Ensure equipment, materials, and facilities are clean, well-maintained, and safe
  • Assist with classroom setup, transitions, and outdoor supervision

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with lead teachers, assistant teachers, and therapists
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with families to support continuity between home and school
  • Demonstrate good judgment, diplomacy, and effective communication while representing Includ(Ed)

Program & Administrative Support

  • Assist with classroom documentation, logs, and basic record keeping
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities
  • Provide flexible coverage across classrooms as needed to support ratios and staffing needs
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support program operations

Lines of Supervision & Assignment

Reports To:

  • Founding Preschool Director
  • Lead Teacher in assigned classroom

Assignment May Include:

  • Infant Classroom (0–18 months)
  • Toddler Classroom (12–36 months)
  • Preschool Classroom (2 years–TK)
  • Float support across multiple classrooms

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 12 core ECE units required, including 3 units related to infant care
  • Minimum 6 months experience working with children in a licensed childcare or early learning setting
  • Experience with infants, toddlers, or in inclusive settings preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young children
  • Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn and implement inclusive strategies and classroom supports

Additional Requirements

  • DOJ/FBI/CA CACI Livescan fingerprint clearance
  • Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • 16-hour Preventative Health & Safety training preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish) and/or working use of ASL a plus
  • Reliable transportation and consistent attendance

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to kneel, bend, stoop, sit on the floor, and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to actively engage in physical play and supervision
