Senior Marketing Manager

Department: Managed Services Client - Navy SEAL Museum San Diego

The Role:

We are seeking a Senior Marketing Manager to lead the marketing efforts of the Navy SEAL Museum San Diego. This position will report to the National Marketing Director.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a passion for storytelling and a strong understanding of both traditional and digital marketing techniques. The Senior Marketing Manager will play a crucial role in increasing the Museum's visibility, driving visitor engagement, and promoting our mission to a diverse audience.

The Senior Marketing Manager will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing integrated marketing and communications plans for exhibitions, educational programs, events, community, and development initiatives to establish and increase the Museum’s visibility and attendance in San Diego. Duties also include staff management, collaboration with other departments and community groups, actively managing press and media contacts, along with budget management.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create comprehensive marketing strategies to promote the Museum's exhibits, events, and educational programs. Collaborate with senior leadership to align marketing initiatives with the Museum's overall goals and objectives.

  • Maintain and enhance the Museum's brand identity through consistent messaging, visual identity, and storytelling across all marketing channels; lead strategic applications and positioning of the Museum brand both locally and nationally.

  • Utilize a variety of marketing tools including traditional media, digital media, and social media.

  • Oversee the production of and approve all marketing and communications materials.

  • Collaborate on promotional strategies with neighboring museums.

  • Cultivate relationships with media outlets, influencers, and community partners to generate positive press coverage and increase the Museum's visibility. Coordinate press releases, media events, and press tours to highlight key Museum initiatives.

  • Create, implement, and oversee strategies and timelines for marketing, communications, advertising, media buying, content marketing, and public relations.

  • Write and/or edit content for Museum promotions and communications (internal and external), development of campaigns, and video scripting.

  • Develop and proactively manage relationships with media organizations, fulfilling inquiries and image requests.

  • Develop relationships with vendors, sponsors, advertisers, and community contacts in order to maximize marketing dollars.

  • Work collaboratively as a member of the Museum’s senior management team.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including curatorial, education/outreach, and operations to ensure alignment of marketing efforts with overall Museum programming and visitor experience.

  • Manage and work with Marketing and Communications staff to meet goals and execute strategies.

  • Develop, manage, and oversee marketing and communications budget and staff.

  • Measure, review and report on the progress of marketing and communications plans and projects.

  • Provide monthly marketing and communications reports.

  • Oversee the compilation, analysis, and evaluation of market data.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in marketing, with marketing management experience preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in brand management, public relations, and media relations.

  • Must be suited for a fast-paced, high-energy work environment with strong organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal under time constraints.

  • Ability to develop and implement an integrated marketing and communications plan.

  • Excellent project management and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; must be personable and diplomatic in working with diverse constituencies and staff.

  • Proven experience using best practices in marketing communications (including related technology), public relations, graphic design, internet marketing, and print industry.

  • Budget development and monitoring experience.

  • Creative thinker with a passion for storytelling and a keen eye for design.

  • Team player with a sense of humor.

  • Strategic planner with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.

  • Self-sufficient in routine office administration tasks, including finalizing correspondence, maintaining calendar appointments, preparing presentations, etc.

  • Able to effectively represent the Museum at public events.

  • Knowledge of regional and national marketing trends for arts organizations/museums as well as internet/website management.

  • Non-profit or museum marketing experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge of military history, particularly the history and mission of the United States Navy SEALs, is a plus.

Pay and Benefits:

  • Annual Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000, commiserate with experience.
