Job Title: Nursery Assistant

Reports To: Nursery Manager

Supervises: Volunteers, Nursery Interns,

Department: Design, Construction & Open Space

Status: Full Time, Hourly, Nonexempt

Work Location: Ascot Hills Park Nursery

Hourly Range: $21-$24 / hour

Position Overview: The Nursery Assistant will be responsible for supporting general nursery operations, as well as NET public events and community engagements, under the direction of the Nursery Manager. The work of the Nursery Assistant will involve collection of locally sourced seed for native plant propagation for Fire Resiliency & Restoration work on NET projects. This is a physically demanding job that is in an outdoor nursery setting.

Responsibilities:

? Collection and documentation of native plant seeds from the LA region

? Process, clean, count, store and sow native plant seed

? Outplant propagated seedlings

? Perform plant maintenance, including weeding and watering

? Maintain growing areas and grounds of the nursery, including minor repairs

? Handle and transport tools, supplies, containers and plants in a safe manner

? Participate in community engagement events including volunteer activities, workshops, and demonstrations

Qualifications and Skills:

? Some experience in community service and volunteering preferred

? Nursery or Landscaping experience

? Basic computer skills, including competence in Microsoft and Google Suites

? Ability to maintain clean, organized workspace

? Ability to follow instructions, organizational directives and policies

? Ability to work well with others, and to work with and support volunteers

? Interest in native plants and local ecology

? Ability to hike and navigate natural environments

? Good problem solving skills

? A mobile phone is required to clock in and out for work shifts and breaks

? Reliable transportation required (own vehicle and ability to drive NET trucks)

Education and Experience:

? High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Physical Requirements:

? Ability to do physical labor including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs unassisted), and safely use hand tools and motorized equipment in changing weather conditions.

? Prolonged periods of standing at work tables, and some tasks requiring bending, lifting, stooping or kneeling for extended periods.

? Ability to operate standard office equipment
