The position – Payroll Specialist
We presently have a core HR Division and are now adding to our team due to an increased demand for services. Reporting to the HR Operations Supervisor, the Payroll Specialist is a part-time employee accountable for providing Payroll services to internal Mission Edge employees, fiscally sponsored and managed service clients who require high-touch Payroll processing, services and related projects.
Compensation: The hourly range for this part-time, non-exempt position is $31.00 - $39.00 per hour DOE.
This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Liberty Station, in-person at our local client offices (as needed) and remote.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
7-10 years progressive Payroll experience
Working knowledge and understanding of Federal and state payroll and tax laws, wage and hour laws, and employee benefits laws
Nonprofit experience strongly preferred
Strong experience using Microsoft Office, Google Drives, Gmail and various payroll and HRIS software/ systems such as ADP Run, Paylocity, Paychex, Gusto, Rippling, Paycom and Paycor
Enthusiastic team player with a strong commitment to create a positive and engaging work environment
Outgoing with ability to provide excellent customer service to staff, clients and payroll providers
Strong work ethic and proven clerical skills, including highly organized and detailed-oriented
Excellent critical thinker, analytical and problem solver; able to make solid judgments and data-based decisions in a fast-paced environment
Ability to hold personal, HR related and payroll information strictly confidential
Proven ability to function in a multi-tasking environment
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a friendly and professional demeanor
Computation, math and accounting skills
Computer literacy, including using programs and spreadsheets
Problem-solving abilities
Organizational skills
Time-management expertise
Experience with Project Management software including Monday.com and or Basecamp is a plus.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Process payroll and related support, i.e. time off tracking, timesheet review, benefits deductions, retirement plan deductions) etc.
Collect, verify, and record employee attendance, including hours worked
Compute wages, commissions, and deductions, as applicable
Compute and process final pay in accordance with state and federal law
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, including remittance of payroll taxes and required withholdings
Process and monitor garnishment orders, wage orders or levies
Handle employee complaints about incorrect payments and resolve discrepancies
