Stepping Stone of San Diego aims to help end the stigma surrounding recovery from alcohol and substance abuse, as well as remind people struggling with addiction, and their loved ones, that help is available and no one has to deal with this issue alone. Our mission is to create, improve and deliver alcohol and other drug treatment, HIV and other health interventions, recovery, education and prevention services specializing in the challenges of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities of the San Diego region.
Position Summary:
The Residential Intake Specialist is responsible for the screening and admission process for all potential program residents. Stepping Stone is an addiction recovery, mental health and housing non-profit that specializes in serving the LGBTQIA+ community, and staff members are expected to be culturally competent in working within this community. The intake specialist conducts outreach, schedules admission screenings and intake assessments, and tracks and documents the intake process. The Intake Specialist coordinates program orientations events and works closely with agency LPHA and program leadership to ensure appropriate resident admissions based on the client’s level of care. The Intake Specialist creates partnerships with referral organizations such as other Substance Use Disorder treatment providers and community partners, and always ensure we continually have a pipeline of clients ready for screening. Stepping Stone residential program is a 31-bed treatment facility, and the primary goal of the Intake Specialist is to ensure that beds are filled throughout the year. This position reports to the Program Therapist and is full-time.
Compensation: $25-$30 per hour
Essential Functions:
- Conducting in person and phone screenings for potential clients
- Consistently monitor planned discharges and intakes to ensure all available beds are occupied
- Complete American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) assessments to determine appropriate level of care for treatment
- Reviews all potential client screening packets to assess the needs of the client and whether residential program is appropriate
- Maintains Referral Tracking Log for all potential clients contact and interest
- Answer all inquiries related to screening and admission via telephone, email, and U.S Mail, Stepping Stone’s online chat portal
- Complete all Drug Medi-Cal (DMC) intake documentation, according to county, state, and agency guidelines in the electronic health record, SmartCare
- Ability to make outreach presentations to community nonprofits, sober support spaces, prison extension programs, and other LGBTQIA+ affiliated community programs to ensure the community is aware of Stepping Stone's services
- Works collaboratively and develops partnerships with referral sources to develop relationships with other SUD treatment providers and community partners to refer clients to our program
- Attend all internal meetings, and complete all trainings as required
- Attend weekly, or as needed, counseling supervision meetings with the LPHA
- Adhere to County and State documentation and compliance standards
- Provide outreach and assessment to prospective clients, developing new methods to source clients to enter our program
- Provide monthly productivity requirement for direct service hours
- Other duties as assigned or necessary to support the program and program leadership
- Oversee and maintain all confidentiality and privacy standards for client protected health information and other information and materials in accordance with company policies and procedures, and applicable regulations and laws according to HIPAA
Minimum Qualifications:
- Maintain active registration through CCAPP, CAADE, or CADTP with certification within 1 year of hire
- Complete all required CEU training for certification renewal
- Cultural competency and humility in working with LGBTQIA+ communities
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification (or within 90 days of hire)
- Excellent computer skills, including MS Office Suite, Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Excellent documentation skills
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a group setting
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and shifting priorities within a residential SUD treatment setting
- Ability to work productively in a fast-paced environment
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 to 5 years serving clients in health or social services programs
- Previous intake experience in an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) program residential setting
- Experience working with electronic health record systems including SmartCare
- Experience with Optum – SUDPOH county forms used for AOD documentation
- Written and spoken bilingual fluency in Spanish and English
- Active SUD certification through CCAPP, CAADE, or CADTP
- Experience conducting intakes for a Medi-Cal funded program
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- While primarily working indoors, counselors also work with clients outdoors
- Regularly lift 15 pounds, and occasionally up to 50
- Holiday, evening, and weekend work may be required
- Transporting residents to and from activities and or appointments
